Acousticophobia - Fear of Noises Acousticophobia can lead to extreme senses of paranoia, as the thought that a loud noise will arise virtually cripples the sufferer socially. ————————————————————————— WORD FACTS: Acousticophobia is derived from the greek word Acousticos, which means to hear sound. Acousticophobia is also derived from Phobos, the Greek God of fear (Obviously). ————————————————————————— SCIENCE: As far as acousticophobia is understood, there is no clear cause, leading people to consider it the simple combination of bad luck, trauma, and genetics. HOWEVER... I am not satisfied with this! I have a theory that would create a small genetic link between acousticophobia and evolution! Typically, predators will make loud noises to stake claim to land and to ward off potential rivals. Animals that are more docile, don’t do this because it alerts predators to their presence.
