Anablephobia
Anablephobia - The intense and irrational fear of looking up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WORD FACTS
Anablephobia is derived from the Greek root ana, which means up, and the Latin root ble, which means when directly translated means "result of the act of" which needless to say is clunky.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE SCIENCE
Sufferers commonly do not actually fear the action of looking up itself, rather what they might see. This can include seeing things straight out of Loony Toons like an anvil plummeting towards you, to something mundane such as rain or snow.

Other sufferers fear looking up as a result of the psychological effects it has on them; many of these people feel that the vastness of the sky and outer space beyond will crumple them. They feel incredibly insignificant and there have been several cases of reported suicides as a result of this depression-like1

CAUSE:
Unlike Ambulophobia, the research post before this, Anablephobia is much less understood. There is still the answer of a combination of trauma and genetics, but other than that, it is mere speculation. As I was writing this I came up with a theory. *Flashback to the science section* "This can include seeing things straight out of Loony Toons, like an anvil plummeting towards you..." While what I am thinking may seem just like trauma, it might not be, I would need someone with a strong understanding of neuroscience to tell me that. What if a child watching a cartoon like Loony Toons sees something an anvil or another heavy object fall from the sky and crush, let's say Wile E Coyote, and this child happens to have an overactive amygdala and occipital cortex, this would lead to an easily scared and very impressionable person, and that combination, plus seeing a character get crushed by a falling anvil could lead to a fear of looking up, lest they see their imminent doom. Of course that is just speculation, a theory really. I also probably used the wrong term for the cortex of imagination, but I am sure that the concept can still be understood.

THE CARD:
The image was used because there are lots of "nasty things" in the tree and you likely wouldn't see them through that person's p.o.v. without looking up. It effectively weakens the enchanted creature when looking up, so it has less attack and can only block creatures with flying. I drew inspiration from B.F.Z.'s Tightening Coils. Frankly, looking back, this card is kinda not great at all, in that it is unbalanced and needs lots of work done on it. Including that missing space! *screams like a maniac* So ignore everything I said, and just imagine what it could've been if I were as good in my execution as I thought I was.

Please Note:
1. (This is for that superscript after the crossed out bit.) I know that depression isn't close to the right thing to compare it to. I tried finding disorders that cause senses of insignificance, and it was the only thing that cam up. That and suicide hotlines. PSA ANNOUNCEMENT: Suicide isn't the answer.
2. The seperation bars are likely not fitted to your screen. I cannot guess what you are viewing this post on, so ignore any extra dashes if they are there. Thank you.
