Agyrophobia
Agyrophobia - the fear of crossing the street.
—————————————————————————
WORD HISTORY:
Agyrophobia, othwise known as Dromophobia, is the fear of crossing streets. Agyrophobia is derived from Phobos, the Greek god of fear and the Greek word for street, Agyro. Dromophobia is also derived from Phobos (all phobias are derived from him, so lets just take him for granted now), and from the the Greek word Dromo, or racecourse.
—————————————————————————
A person with Agyrophobia has the incessant fear that if they cross a street, there will be harm done to them, whether by a car or by some other means.
—————————————————————————
SYMPTOMS:
The most common symptoms of Agyrophobia are:
• Feelings of dread when presented with a situation or the thought of crossing road or intersection.
•Automatic or uncontrollable muscle movements in responce to their fear. Most likely something of a fight or flight responce.
• Rapid Heartbeat
• Shortness of Breath
• Trembling and Shaking
• Extreme avoidance of roads and situations that involve crossing roads.
————————————————————————————————————————
SCIENCE:
Agyrophobia is a oddball like Ablutophobia and many others. It is a fear that has no real rhyme or reason to the cause except for the same wide net of triggering events. These causes vary from traumatic events relating to roads to one of any mental disorders. What sets this apart from a normal cautionary fear is that sufferers will find any reason to be terrified of crosssing a road. This causes a person suffering from Agyrophobia to be incable of doing many everyday activities. Such activities include grocery shopping, parking, or even being on vacation in a place that will involve a significant amount of walking.

The CARD:
I created the effect of Agyrophobia before I made the rest. The controlling nature of the enchantment made me consider making the spell blue, but I felt that the nature of weakening attack through a benefit is too blue. I felt that there were too many cards that use benefits and turn them into disadvantages in the blue roster. Also the fear most likely is that being crossing the street harm will come to you by a car, and that hit and maybe run nature is red. So I decided to make Agyrophobia a red spell not only because of the penalty’s nature, but also to mix things up a bit. Don’t be afraid of a little change. Lqtm.
I thought that making the creature unable to attack if the controller also controls a gate made much more sense than the inability to attack or block because the creature would need to cross over the land to the battle, and if the controller has a gate, there would be a street along the way. I think it makes sense, but maybe I’m weird.

Gates don't convey the flavour of crossing the street for me. Something to do with vehicles would be ideal, but I've already suggested that. Honestly, a functional reprint of Caught in the Brights (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=423677) would be ideal. Boring, I know, but better flavour.
ReplyDeleteI think it is the best possible representation you can do in magic. Even though I think it is kind of boring, I understand that magic doesn't give a lot to work with agryophobia.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Fantasy! Fell free to follow me! Noah, shaddup! Jk.
