Ailurophobia
Ailurophobia - fear of cats
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
WORD HISTORY:
Ailurophobia is derived from Phobos and Ailuros. Phobos, meaning fear, and Ailuros meaning cat.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS:
To be honest, the symptoms are more or less the same as any other phobia. I will probably only have a symptom section every few. Comment if you would prefer for me to list symptoms every time, or just every now and then. Got it?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
SCIENCE:
I am personally a dog person, but there are those who really love cats, there are those who don't particularly like cats, but someone with Ailurophobia is downright terrified of cats. Ailurophobia is a defensive tactic used by the subconscious to protect oneself. Many times, people with this fear, don't know why they fear cats, merely that they do and always have. I could dive into evolution, but I don't think I will for today. As always trauma can trigger a phobia, or even it can be inherited genetically from a parent. The reason why most documented cases of Ailurophobia have no memorable cause, is that children most often, will subconsciously block memory to a traumatic event to keep it from tormenting them. The human brain has been able to do this for a long time and it is also the reason why some of those stories of harassment only a released years later. Just a fun fact.

The CARD:
I made Ailurophobia a black, green, and white spell in the way I did to add flexibility; those three colors being the main three colors that I have seen with cats. I understand that my -X/-X concept has been getting kind of old, but it still fits with the black color scheme. There really wasn't too much thought that was put into this card aside from a sort of formula that I used for the early Phobia cards. Of course I will be diverting from this formula as much as possible to create cards that are as diverse as the phobias that inspired them.

Thank you for reading my blog and check out my other posts. While you're at it check out my girlfriend's blog through the link in the description below. She is doing something so much more meaningful and I really admire her for that. However she only blogs about once a week so it will be slow, but she is working to help a good cause. Thanks again, leave a comment about what you liked, disliked, or that you want to see, and follow me on Google+. I hope that my blog will eventually be so good that its scary.

Really interesting to hear about the suppressed memory thing! Not something I was super aware of.
ReplyDeleteThe card: The mana cost is wonky. I have a few issues:
a) the recent Cat precon EDH deck is only green/white. It would love to run this but can't.
b) you can run this without black (not in EDH). G/W shouldn't get access to this effect.
I'd suggest a pacifism effect:
Ailurophobia
GW
enchantment - phobia aura
Enchanted creature can't attack, block and activiated abilities of enchanted creature can't be activated as long as you control a cat.
It's a cheaper Arrest with a rider. Seems fair.
