Agliophobia
Agliophobia - the fear of pain
Me (to me in my head): Do I really need to explain this one?
Me (I’ll call that first “Me” Me1 and this one Me2): Yes.
Me1: Why?
Me2: Because you already did several posts rather lazily and we don’t want to appear too lazy!
Me1: Alright. Fine.
That is generally what went on ion my head before I decided to actually write this post. However, I feel immensely tired at the moment and don't really feel like explaining why people fear pain. I’ll let you try to figure this tricky one out. No; instead I will explain the origins of the word, and a few exceptions, as well as when this is out of the ordinary.
The word agliophobia is a mix between the prefix aglio and the word phobia. Phobia is derived from the Greek god of fear, Phobos. Aglio is derived from the Greek word Aglo, which means pain.
Similar to how amaxophobia has different phobia words that mean the same thing, agliophobia has the following synonyms: Odynophobia, Odynephobia, and Odynesphobia. The prefix Odyn-o/e/es is derived from the Greek word Odyn, which also means pain.
So... the exceptions of the general populous who most of have mild agliophobia, are... the masochists. A masochist, for those who don’t know, are people who enjoy pain that is inflicted upon them. Sometimes, these people get... sexual pleasure out of it.
Lastly, when agliophobia is out of the ordinary is when someone has diagnoseable agliophobia. This is the crippling fear of pain to the point that someone won’t be willing to do something if there is the possibility of getting slightly hurt. Ouch. (Pun intended)

Salvete Omnes! (I need to get some rest...)

Fascinating! I feel like everyone has this fear to an extent, but it's interesting to note that some people are actually SCARED of pain. I mean I don't like pain, but I'm not scared of it y'know?
ReplyDeleteNotes on the card: Templating's a bit off. It also seems like too minimal a punishment. Keep in mind messing up mana is far worse than messing up creatures.

Noah, keep in mind that it is a common that is triggered constantly.
DeleteIt's too complicated, even in its current form, to be a common. You could easily make it an uncommon or even rare; compare to stuff like various spectres and Dictate of Erebos.
