Idea

Something I realized, is that something that slows this blog is the forcing it to be alphabetical and I don't necessarily cover the phobias that I feel like at the time. That is what I will do. I will cover the phobias I have researched already, then phobias that I would like to!

Anthrophobia

Image
Anthrophobia - The intense and often irrational fear of people. Anthropophobia - The intense and often irrational fear of society. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WORD FACTS While these two phobias are technically different, with different subjects, they are commonly used interchangeably by psychologists and people in general (if you think people generally use phobia terms,) so I am covering both of these in one post with one card. Anthrophobia and Anthropophobia are derived from the Greek word anthropo , which means man. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE SCIENCE A fairly obvious fact about Anthropophobia is that it is a social phobia and a S.A.D. While Anthrophobia and Anthropophobia are fears of people and society respectively, they are often used as a blanketing ph...

Coming soon! (probably today)

Anthrophobia is coming soon! Probably today. If it isn't, that means I was a woos and stopped part way through or just didnt start even after writing this hype post. So hopefully it won't come to that!

Anablephobia

Image
Anablephobia - The intense and irrational fear of looking up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WORD FACTS Anablephobia is derived from the Greek root ana , which means up, and the Latin root ble , which means when directly translated means "result of the act of" which needless to say is clunky. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE SCIENCE Sufferers commonly do not actually fear the action of looking up itself, rather what they might see. This can include seeing things straight out of Loony Toons like an anvil plummeting towards you, to something mundane such as rain or snow. Other sufferers fear looking up as a result of the psychological effects it has on them; many of these people feel that the vastness of the sky and outer space beyond will crumple them. They...

4th of July Special (Even though the fourth was yesterday...)

Image
This post contains NO NEW RESEARCH. This is simply going to contain two cards I have made that sum up what it would mean to fireworks. Acousticophobia and Pyrophobia. The Acousticophobia card is a remake but with a new art and icon. The pyrophobia hasn't been officially released yet so all that will be the same is... never mind. The only thing that will be different is that it will be a more pyrophobia-y image. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERONE! (Again; I know that this is being posted the day after.)

Ambulophobia

Image
Ambulophobia - Fear of Walking --------------------------------------------------------------------------- WORD FACTS: Ambulophobia is derived from the Latin word ambulō, ambulāre, ambulāvī, ambulatus/a/um , which means to walk. (Sorry that I put in all of the basic forms. I take Latin as a World Language and I know that one of the top of my head...) It is also derived from the Greek god of fear, Phobos. (Obviously.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCIENCE: Ambulophobia typically doesn't manifest in early life, rather the older a person gets, the more likely they are to develop it and its symptoms. Sufferers typically will feel unsafe while walking and sometimes while standing up and will usually use a walking cane and sometimes confine themselves to a wheelchair. Ambulophobia is also closely related to Basophobia/Basiphobia & Statibasophobia/Stasiphobia, all of which pertain to the action of walking or standing. It also is ...

The Time is at Hand (An Unfortunate Name, as it was Already Used)

Image
Everyone! The time is at hand! I have a schedule in place that I will hopefully be sticking to. I have a lovely setup in Surf City at the library. The only wrinkle is that I will have to get up in time to arrive at 9 in the morning. I'll show you the relevant bits of my schedule. My Schedule As is Relevant to My Blog Note that I forgot to Include the Extra Research Section on my Saturday Schedule. Unfortunately, I spent all of today's time making this post and dealing with computer troubles trying to get a spreadsheet as an image. Please don't explain it to me in the comments, as I now understand and am embarrassed at how simple it was. Tomorrow I will be posting Ambulophobia. Don't forget to check out the rest of my blog! Also be sure to share with your friends and family! Here are some links that you should check out: My blog's home page: http://mtgphobias.blogspot.com/ Cardsmith: https://mtgcardsmith.com/ Cardsmith Forums: http://forums.mtg...

I Apologize That I Am What I Am

I apologize that I am what I am. A procrastinator. To be honest, when I realized that I hadn’t made the post that I had promised, I had started up think of all of the ways that I could make an excuse, think of everything that I had to do and exaggerate it and pretend as though there was no free time. Then I realized something: Its a little boy who cried wolf situation. When I keep exaggerating and saying that things came up, when it actually is that bad, people will call it to be a bluff. So **** it. I am a procrastinator. I have been procrastinating my posts for a while now, because I have been intimidated to get back into the flow of research and posting. Those who have seen my activity on the Cardsmith Forums can attest to that. (The fact that I have had time on my hands.) I WILL... however, post when I am done my finals as I need to study now and then take them as of Monday. At that moment there will begin the tedious process of the “recalibration” of my routine. I will sta...

Soon...

Soon I will post my next research post. On either Saturday or Sunday! If I get to monday with no post! Bombard me with emails pressuring me to get it moving!

The Time is at Hand

The time is at hand everyone! Today I am going to present my project before at minimum 140 other students and at maximum many more! Wish me luck! You all have helped me get this far!

New address

I have a new blog address that i believe is more memorable and relevant! My teacher has given the go ahead to change the op to my liking! The new link is mtgphobias.blogspot.com Enjoy!

Ok... I have been having intense writer’s block as of late and I still have the last third of an essay already late and I need to turn that in today. So long story short: I typically get writer’s block when I need to write the most and it stops when its past. So I need to cram out that essay and then I should have that alleviated. I wont post Allodoxaphobia. I love that research too much to make it any other post. This will be like Nyctophobia. On September 1st Iwill post Allodoxaphobia. Until then I will first post the other Phobias I have made so far. The cards & research to expect soon are (all haven’t been researched yet though...): Photophobia: Fear of Light https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/photophobia?list=user Phobophobia: Fear of Fear https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/phobophobia?list=user That last one probably won’t be soon though... So thanks anyway!

A Heartfelt Thanks

Image
As this post’s title probably suggests, this is a heartfelt thanks to all of you who have commented on, read, supported, or even acknowledged my blog. In other words, if you came here looking for some sweet research, you’re gonna have to wait until later today, when I post Allodox. Photophobia should be posted monday. But enough about that. This post is dedicated to all of my readers so far, and to the many more that will hopefully come. Most of my notable thanks go to members of the Cardsmith Community who have supported, whether it be by commenting, supporting me, making cards about the fear aspect of my user, etc. Thank you @Tomigon aka Kohei Tomita (I will remove that if you dont want it there) He has been a consistent viewer on my blog and was the first to make a card based on me that supported the blog. Give him a hand everyone! (I am going to assume that you are clapping) https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/ranshi-tormentor-of-souls-2 Thank you @sorinjace and...

Testing 123

This is just a small test of something to come. Ignore this. If you are wondering wtf is going on, dont bother. If it does work, ignore the sloth god.

New posts soon

So I am going to be posting stuff for the fear cards Ihave made so far. Expect a post on every friday. (Hopefully this time I’ll actually be able to follow through 😅)

What to Expect

I have been mulling over what to do for Phobophobia, the big guy, the fear of fear itself. The more you think about how that would work, suffering from it, the worse and worse you realize it is. It is one of those infinitely spiraling loops of agony. But that isnt the point. I am posting right now to tell you what to expect. I will be posting my Allodoxaphobia research which I am very happy with. (Later today) On either tomorrow or Tuesday, I will be posting Ambulophobia. And every month or two starting on this friday I will be posting a different card on Phobophobia. This is because it is fear of fear itself and that is so very vast that it can manifest in a plethora of ways. So feel free to whenever you get an idea for Phobophobia, comment it and I will consider it. The first Phobophobia I had come up with and when asking the Cardsmith community for their idea on Phobophobia, someone suggested the same thing. Because of that, it will be first. Thank you @Tomigon! That was just a...

The Contest I Have Been Waiting For

A fellow Cardsmith user, modnation675, has made a contest that I have been waiting for: A contest about fear! The one of the prizes for first place is a month of premium membership on him! This is a big deal for me, so expect me to be giving it my all in the next 3 phobia cards! THANK YOU INTERNET! THANK YOU MODNATION675! AND THANK YOU CARDSMITH!

Alektorophobia

Image
Alektorophobia - The Fear of Chickens ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- WORD FACTS: Alektorophobia is derived from the Greek root, alektoro , which comes from the Greek word Alektor , which means rooster. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCIENCE: Alektorophobia is an isolated phobia, meaning that as far as people are aware, it is simply a combination of bad luck, genetics, and trauma. I am so sorry that I cannot provide a more interesting explanation. But I do have a couple fun facts: - Alektorophobia will sometimes (and this is very rare) also encompass chicken eggs and dead chickens, such as you might find in a grocery store. - Some sufferers will claim that chickens are not stupid but rather "****ing clever conspiratorial beasts" and aggressive. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTO...

Acousticophobia

Image
Acousticophobia - Fear of Noises Acousticophobia can lead to extreme senses of paranoia, as the thought that a loud noise will arise virtually cripples the sufferer socially. ————————————————————————— WORD FACTS: Acousticophobia is derived from the greek word Acousticos, which means to hear sound. Acousticophobia is also derived from Phobos, the Greek God of fear (Obviously). ————————————————————————— SCIENCE: As far as acousticophobia is understood, there is no clear cause, leading people to consider it the simple combination of bad luck, trauma, and genetics. HOWEVER... I am not satisfied with this! I have a theory that would create a small genetic link between acousticophobia and evolution! Typically, predators will make loud noises to stake claim to land and to ward off potential rivals. Animals that are more docile, don’t do this because it alerts predators to their presence. I believe that the evolving human brain associated these loud noises, such as roars with danger...

Acarophobia

Image
Acrarophobia - Fear of Itching / Fear of Insects Ok. So to start off, I had thought that Acarophobia seemed pretty silly, but then I found out that it was more than the fear of itching, but that it is actually particularly devastating in the way that the body is impacted.———————— WORD FACTS: Acarophobia is derived from the Latin root, Acaro , which means “mites” and for an obvious reason when you consider the insect side of the phobia. ———————————————————————————————————————— SCIENCE: The fear of insects is largely a disgust responce to their shapes and colors. However, most of what causes an overactive hippocampus responce to the natural fear of insects that is caused by nothing other than, wait for it... evolution. But of course there is the predisposition that some people have as a result of a combination of genetics, environmental factors, and bad luck. But enough of that, here is when things get disturbing. (and itchy) ———————————————————————————————————————— Symptoms...

Assurances

To anybody out there who is particularly invested in my blog: I apologize that I am taking so long to get back to my regular posting schedule. I want to keep up said schedule but I also want to keep providing research that is of equal or greater quality than I have been doing so far. If I am to do the latter, I couldn’t do the former, but if I did the former, I couldnt do the latter... It was a tricky dellema, but I am in fact right now researching for the next five or so phobias, then I will write my posts for each of them, setting up a every other day posting routine, and then during the 10 days while those are being released I can research the next 5 and write, so on and so forth. Long story short: Things will return to how they were, but of better quality, I just need a bit more time to get everything set up. Lastly, it is only natural for me to be slower ‘round this time because of midterms! Yay 😒. So I will be back from my preparation soon. Just hang in there! Also dont look ...

Research

I am aware that I have not posted in a while. I am NOT on a hiatus again. I decided that I wanted to provide more quality information so right now I am researching for the next 5 or so phobias and then I will try to get back to my regular posting schedule. Thank you for understanding!

Flavor Text

This will probably only be relevant to those who are here through Cardsmith; I am toying with the idea of changing the flavor text to an actual flavor text rather than the definition. Please email your thoughts on the matter to me. Thank you! Email me at wesleyryan922@gmail.com
